Well, that's because you ARE blackmailing them.

Well, as long as it's still pertinent I'd like to offer my two cents about the recent Livejournal wank. Specifically, these two:

  1. According to the TOS, LJ is indeed allowed to change up things without telling anyone. It has been this way for years.
  2. If the userbase does not agree to the Livejournal TOS, they should leave.
I don't mean that to be ( Read more... )

*HEADDESK* EPIC FAIL COMMENTING OOPS nalina March 20 2008, 07:49:04 UTC
aosidj;odfij;s I'M SORRY I'M FAILING AT COMMENTING TONIGHT OMG OSFJo;sfijs;dfs isdfjs;difs d;sofidjs;fds...

You're right. This is getting way outta hand.

I can understand to a point people wanting to do something, but a pathetic 24 hour strike isn't how to do it.

TOS aside, I'm just irked at SUP since they were saying they wanted to have good communication, brought in Brad and others as an advice group... all that stuff, trying to gain our trust... then seemed to ignore it all.

I'm not saying they weren't well within their rights to do so... they want money, they're a business. \O_o/ (Really the stupid you need to opt-out of having your posts auto posted to their LJ explore annoys me more than the loss of basic accounts.) Just augh, it's so dumb of them XD Not for doing it, just doing it like this without announcing it before hand and not seeming to expect a backlash for it. Yeah they were allowed to. Was it smart to? HELL NO. lol

I just... it breaks my brain they didn't scroll back through news and notice how that happened with 6A again and again and learned from it or something. XD;

They just really set themselves up for this. Not saying they deserve it either just...

You know what I mean? XD lol

I think LJ users are just getting really cranky. We have been pulled through a rough ride of changes, and everyone is getting more and more fedup and not thinking smartly at all. -.-; Which is stupid. But I think SUP should have realized that and I would have thought would step a little more carefully. Ah ... I donno if I making sense I really should sleep but anyhoo.

Yeah, that's Jen's 2HL.

Oh... and I got a IJ. Nalina was free... but so was this. I jumped on it. *A*b

STOP FAILING SO I CAN STOP FAILING LOL tafkae March 20 2008, 08:00:42 UTC
I guess really both sides should have seen it coming, since user tactics haven't changed much over the years as far as I can tell - actually, SUP could hardly not have seen it coming. But it may have been a case of them going through with the changes anyway. The bullying is probably going to continue no matter what SUP does, right? So I can see where Nosik's coming from when he says caving to it won't resolve anything.

But the users definitely should have seen it coming, is what I'm saying. It's right there in black and white, "things change around here sometimes," so...

Also, HUZZAH! *friends*

I'M SORRY I'M DONE NOW AND MEANT TO BE SLEEPING nalina March 20 2008, 08:17:08 UTC
Yeah, it's totally true people shoulda expected basic to go away, but then again there had been promises of always a free no-ad feature... but that was some time ago. \O_o/ It was a, if I'm putting this right, idealistic promise... but I think it is a bit of a shame that some of that vision isn't going to be upheld.

I don't think they need to cave, and anyone expecting them to has another thing coming. Obviously Basic acconts aren't coming back, but I think there are a lot of people who do realize that and are like me more pissed off just at the general how this was handled.

I think they need to address the community again as their first attempt since this started hasn't helped things. ("Striking the right tone" was not the phrase to use lol It wasn't about tone, it was just about just simply telling us the facts.)

That's why I really really like Squeaky on IJ. He doesn't try to strike a tone or anything, he just gives all the facts. If somethings down he doesn't say their having server issues, he says what's wrong in detail. (Such as the memory overloaded, or server crashed... stuff like that.) I like that a lot. LJ is too much a big business to ever have that level of open-ness, but laying off mumble-jumbo and just TELLING us about what they're up to and planning and all that would be... nice. XD Never gonna happen but... lol

SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK tafkae March 20 2008, 08:32:19 UTC
To be fair I didn't mean specifically that we should've expected Basic to go away (I think it blindsided pretty much everybody), just that in general we should expect stuff to change. (For the record, the only Basic account I have is actually a sockpuppet - and even then, it's still Basic even as we speak, so technically I'm not affected by this change at all.)

Fuuu.... well, one thing I can say for sure, I would not want to be in LJ's PR department right now or ever. I'm afraid even if they gave everyone the straight-up low-down right away, people would still find something to get pissed about... but I guess we won't know for sure what happens until they try that. :\

Maybe we should write a letter to SUP and ask them politely to update the Terms of Service so they can quote it at people?

...OOPS I FELL ASLEEP. nalina March 20 2008, 14:05:45 UTC
Ooo Kae's message is spreading \o/

Okay, yeah. XD That makes more sense yeah. And lol I think what is going to affected a lot is now Communities. Cause now Comms can't be basic, but are going to be plus now. So any new rp comms made or whatever... will have ads on them too now. THAT is going to SUCK a lot. -.-; Cause most people never make a comm more than basic since you really don't need plus for that. So yeah. ^^;

HAHA no kidding. XD Mmmm.... I think some would be mad either way, but at least it would have been only for one thing. \O_o/ Instead they have a heap of trouble, and thus far are only digging themselves in deeper.

Haha maybe XD;

THAT'S OK I DID TOO tafkae March 20 2008, 14:56:27 UTC
New comms can't be Basic, either? I heard the change was limited to journals, but I haven't checked to verify one way or the other (not having had any reason to start a comm lately or anything).

Guess it's all a bit of a mess any way you look at it... But yeah, it would be better if we just had people civilly disagreeing with new features, rather than angrily disagreeing with new features and whether they should've been announced and whatever conspiracy theories are going around lately.

At least I gathered originally comms were affected too, but like you, I haven't made any comms to test it out and I donno if anyone has said for sure. :x *pokes around a bit* Hmmmmmm... OKAY, I THINK I MIGHT BE TOTALLY WRONG. NM. Cause found some new comms with no ads. lol. That's good then. ^^

Hay look at this I'm just looking at:

SUPRAIZ APOLOGY. :O But, lol, like everyone is saying, they really gotta go cross-post that to news. ^^;
