Title: Money Doesn't Matter 2/?
Author: tafidadarling
Fandom: Crossover between Criminal Minds which belongs to CBS and The Social Network which belongs to Columbia Pictures.
Character(s)/Pairing(s): Mark/Eduardo, Chris, Dustin, Morgan/Reid, entire BAU team including JJ, Cooper from Lo-Fi and Mayhem
Rating: FRM for language and violence including some pretty descriptive torture.
Spoilers/Notes: For CM, the episodes Lo-Fi and Mayhem (slightly) since Detective Cooper makes an appearance. Revelations since Reid makes a reference to what happens in that episode. (In the CM time line, the story occurs between Mayhem and before Omnivore.) For TSN, major spoilers for the movie though nothing is mentioned specifically except in reference to Mark and Eduardo's relationship. (In the TSN time line, it's post-movie. Considering Season 3 of CM is set in 2007, it would be about three years since Eduardo sued Mark.) It is possible to read this if you're not a fan of both. Character quirks might be the only turn off, but I suggest you give it a chance.
Summary: The BAU is unsure about Mark's intentions and then something happens that stops everyone in their tracks.

Morgan and Emily pulled up in front of Mark's house. It was quite large but barely the mansion they were expecting. Inside there were no personal touches, just white walls, beige furniture and dust everywhere.
"Okay, so he's a workaholic who doesn't spend much time at home," Emily said. "Though we already could guess that."
"If he was the Unsub, he would need another space to do the torture. He has the money to rent a storage room. It would be private enough."
"I'll text Garcia to see if she checked his credit cards." Emily sent a quick text to the tech, and then followed Morgan to the kitchen. "What is it?"
"This grocer list," Morgan muttered. "There's nothing else to suggest this place is even inhabited, not even the bedroom. Yet, here's a list, and there isn't things you'd expect to be for a guy like Zuckerberg. 'Two boxes of spaghetti. One pound of hamburger. One jar of tomato sauce. Parmesan.'"
"He was going to make spaghetti and meatballs. So?"
"Does he look like the kind of guy who cooks a big meal?" Morgan slipped the list into an evidence bag. "I'll have Reid compare this to a sample of Zuckerberg's hand writing."
"So someone is cooking for him? I don't see what this has to do with our case now. It's clear Zuckerberg isn't the Unsub."
"It doesn't have anything to do with it unless it's Saverin's writing."
"Then Zuckerberg lied. They have reconnected. We weren't called here to analyze an office romance gone bad. You of all people should know better than to be poking around."
"What?" Morgan aimed for surprise, but they were the best. They knew what was coming.
"Hotch said Rossi outed you and Reid finally."
"Thank God, I was tired of hiding. Spencer was afraid we'd get fired."
"Just don't tell Strauss."
"Strauss who?" Morgan said wth a laugh. He and Emily climbed into the SUV and head back to the Facebook offices.
---------------------------------------------------------
Reid studied the grocery list where it was lined up next to a sample of Mark's handwriting Chris had managed to coax out of him. He still hadn't spoken since Hotch and Rossi walked out on the interview. JJ and Chris watched him code from a distance.
"It's not a match," Reid said. "Not even close. Now, I compared it to Saverin's signature on the contracts in the files. I would like a better sample to be sure, but it may be his. See the 'S' in spaghetti and the 'S' in Saverin. They're identical."
"Well, he's not going to talk to me now," Rossi said, the hint of a smirk playing across his lips. He wasn't sorry at all.
"I think Reid should try," Morgan said. "He could go for the whole 'young genius who doesn't fit in' to get him to open up."
Reid playfully swatted Morgan's arm but nodded. "I'll go," he said. He picked up the papers and made his way to Mark's desk. "Mr. Zuckerberg? We haven't met yet. I'm Dr. Spencer Reid with the FBI. We have a few more questions." Mark continued typing without so much as a glance in Reid's direction. "You know, we aren't much different Mr. Zuckerberg."
"Oh, don't pull that on me," Mark snarled, his fingers still flying over the keys. "I'm the one who called you. I know what you do. So don't try and make it seem like you know what I'm thinking or how I feel."
"You're right. I don't know how you feel. I know how Mr. Saverin feels. I was kidnapped once, but I knew the ones I loved were doing everything they could to find me."
"Wardo doesn't love me," Mark said quietly.
Reid looked over Mark's shoulder and noticed he wasn't working. He had hacked in the police's system and was searching for John Does who matched Eduardo's description.
"We have three days," Reid said reassuringly. "Mr. Zuckerberg, did Mr. Saverin write this list?"
Without looking, Mark said, "Yes. He yelled at me for still not knowing how to properly feed myself."
"So you have spoken to Mr. Saverin recently?"
"The day before he disappeared. We ran into each other, and it was no different than back at Harvard. He said he couldn't be mad at me forever. Stupid."
"What's stupid?"
"Wardo," Mark said finally meeting Reid's gaze. "He should hate me. I never even said sorry. I'm not, really. It was what needed to be done. He knew that. It just took him some time to realize. I should sa I'm sorry though. I understand that's what you do even if you don't mean it."
"According to society, yes. It takes some practice."
Reid went back to the conference room and informed the team of this new development.
"How did you get him to open up?" Emily asked.
"I went for the, uh, 'young genius who doesn't fit in' angle," Reid said half-hearted. JJ gave him a small smile. "Let's go to the station and give this profile."
---------------------------------------------------------
"We're looking for a white man in his mid-30s to early 40s," Hotch said as the detective and beat cops scribbled in their notebooks. "He's intelligent and mature leaving no evidence of a struggle at the abduction sites."
"He either has a flexible job or is unemployed," Rossi said. "He took the time to learn their routines hence why he was able to take them from their homes."
"This means he's patient," Emily continued. "His victims are just as important as the kill itself. They represent someone in his life who has wronged him whether it be a romantic or business partner."
"The latest victim's friend seems to fit this profile to a tee," one of the cops said. "Minus the age."
"Age is the hardest to predict, but we have enough evidence to prove he is not the Unsub," Hotch said.
"This Unsub is calculated, and a sociopath opposed to a psychopath," Emily said. "He will more than likely not de-evolve. We have to be diligent because we will not catch him by chance. Our technical analyst is currently looking for any overlap between the victims."
Cooper's phone started ringing, and he walked off to the side to take the call without disrupting the profile. His face fell as the voice on the other end relayed the information.
"We have another body," he said. "It hasn't been identified yet." He looked to JJ.
"No, I can't. We can't have Mark... There's not family?"
"They're in Miami," Cooper said emotionless. "He has to."
"If it's Saverin, the Unsub has changed his time line," Hotch said. "That doesn't make sense."
"You've been wrong before."
"Let's hope we're not," JJ said as she dialed the Facebook office's number.
---------------------------------------------------------
Despite their best efforts, several news vans were lined up outside the crime scene tape waiting to ambush Mark when he arrived. The road was far from the city, trees lining the sides. The body was thrown in a ditch hidden by some of the foliage. Chris and Dustin followed Mark out of the car, Chris taking care of the reporters. He and Dustin looked morose, Dustin's eyes bloodshot and Chris not far behind. Mark on the other hand appeared just as collected as when he first apporoched JJ. She knew now that wouldn't be the case.
"He had two and half more days," he said as Morgan let him under the tape.
"It might not be him," Morgan said patting his shoulder. Mark quickly pulled away as if he'd been burned. "We can't tell. I have to warn you; the torture is extensive."
"I've seen the crime scene photos."
"Okay." Morgan led the way, Mark stoically marching behind him. Hotch and Emily were leaning over the body and snapped up. "It might be hard to recognize him."
Mark stared quietly for awhile. The body was tall and tan like Eduardo. The face had been beaten in, most of the hair ripped out. Mark shuffled closer, peering over, his bottom lip trembling.
"It's not Wardo," he said quietly and then repeated himself louder. "It's not Wardo."
Hotch climbed up the slope and addressed Cooper. "Our John Doe is still a John Doe. Have your CSU send DNA to the lab right away. Looks like the Unsub needed a bigger challenge and had two victims at once."
"He's escalating?" Cooper asked. "I'm going to have another man missing and another dead soon, and we have no leads. What do we do?"
"Try and catch him."
