Ianto was a terrible person. He was a liar, a traitor, and tried to kidnap and experiment on his own niece. But the worst thing is that he never had to face the consequences of his actions. At the very least he should have been thrown into prison for trying to start a Cyberman invasion.
Okay, none of that is true. I adore Ianto. I love how screwed up he was. I love that he was so devoted to the woman he loved that he nearly ended the world for her. I love that he decided that Jack needed him, even if Jack didn't know it at the time. I love how he took care of Jack. I love how he kept bits of himself hidden and protected.
But the point is that every person in Torchwood was imperfect, flawed, and so very human. So why must fandom spend so much time and energy attacking Gwen for being just as flawed and imperfect as the rest of them? It's disingenuous and it's obnoxious and I wish it would stop.
