(no subject)
Blah blah blah lots of stuff about the Doctor's slightly megalomaniac tendencies, very very important I'm sure, but let's talk about RORY.
When they introduced Rory, I was pretty much expecting Mickey 2.0, and yet the show has completely CONFOUNDED MY EXPECTATIONS and instead I love him more and more and more every episode. Look at him in this episode, in his wee little Centurion outfit! He gets to save Amy and then... oh my gosh, then he is holding his baby girl, and he's all, "I swore I was going t play it cool," but he is completely not and my heart melted forever. I'm not the biggest fan of creepy sci fi pregnancies, but I am the biggest fan of Rory plus babies. And Rory plus Amy. And Rory and Amy plus Doctor, though not of the random jealous!Rory moments they keep giving us. Can the three of them just all hug each other all the time, pls? ("Oi, you, get in here," after the Doctor tried to make a not-so-graceful exit upon seeing all the kissing and crying going on was maaaaaybe the best part of the episode for me? "EVERYONE LIVES HUGS!")
BUT. I have had this niggling little feeling at the back of my mind all season whenever I think of River going to jail for killing the best man she knows that, well, Rory is self-evidently the best man she knows. And now that we know he's her dad, I am SO WORRIED that Rory is going to die for real through some terrible situation involving River. AND I WILL NOT BE PLEASED. Because Rory needs to stop dying.
I cannot believe I have to wait three months to see what happens next.
A few other thoughts:
1) I had pretty much foreseen the River Song development (and was spoiled), but I'm pretty well chuffed about it. Plus, her being slightly Time Lord would explain a lot of her pwnage of the TARDIS.
2) MELODY POND. It took awhile to sink in after I saw the name online during my GETTING TOTALLY SPOILED WTF period yesterday afternoon, but when I realized the baby's last name was Pond I died laughing forever. Amy so would. "Melody Williams." "Is a geography teacher. Melody Pond."
3) This is around that point that I, always willing to ask the questions that perhaps should not be asked, turned to my sister and said, "I...not to be crass, but...if Rory is plastic, is he, you know, capable of producing a child?" This led to many Rory's Fully Functional jokes.
4) The Doctor speaks Baby!
5) "We're the thin, fat, gay-married Anglican Marines. Why would we need names as well?"
6) The Santaran nurse was the best thing ever ("I can produce magnificent quantities of lactic fluid!"), but his death scene made my heart melt, for many reasons but mainly because Rory, Rory is a nurse too and here he is, going to war.
7) Mandatory "Victorian lesbians" post.
Can it be September now?
