The first run in my sister's room with the carpet steamer is done, except for the furniture I didn't move. I think it is doing a bit better job than the shapooer - the dirt appears to be a lighter shade. I'll end up having to go over the carpet multiple times, I think, as many as I can in the rental period

Doesn't the US have commercial home cleaning companies? I can get the carpets in my 3BR house steam cleaned for $90 down here. John

They do have them. When I moved out of my apartment, one of the mandatory charges was for carpet cleaning. I think it was something like $75 for a 1 Bd apartment. I was able to rent the steamer for only $16, though, and since I have the time to do it myself these days...
