My left hands feels naked. I know exactly why it does, too, but that doesn't help much.

I've had that blasted ring since I was twelve. Read the Koran and both Old and New Testaments for it (my father is a sneaky, sneaky man). It's been worn pretty much constantly since then. Center finger left hand, shifted if my fingers are heat-swollen or cold-thinned to ring finger or to thumb.

I'm not exactly kind to either my jewelry or my hands. So the ring is a bit battered, the shank thinned with age (it's only been repaired eight times . .) and the star garnet stone starting to get a bit chipped and scruffed up. So my father offered to try to find another stone for it. Turns out there's a gemcutter out in Idaho who works a lot with star garnets.

But it works best, when one is making a replacement stone, to have the setting it will need to go in.

So my ring was handed over to my father yesterday, put into a jeans pocket, and is probably currently on its way to Idaho.

And my hand feels naked.
