Amberite mitochondria, the one true mitochondria of which all others are but shadows. And what do Amberite mitochondria do? Do they create little shadow realities inside their host? Shadow DNA? Ook.
Damn. Ook indeed. So you have thought this through! =) I think that Amberite nerves must regenerate -- after all, human nerves have been known to regrow also, just very, very slowly. Your brain grows the more you use it. A muscle like any other. Lack of senility could be explained by a mechanism that eats excess myelin around the nerves -- maybe some kind of white blood cell. Or even symbiosis with Amber bacteria. Oooooh.
Hm. Symbiosis with an Amber bacterium might not confer all the abilities until after they'd been to Amber and been exposed to the source . . unless fathers could manage to pass along a bacteria-starter set with the sperm. O.o Well, I suppose they pass along a few mitochondria, it might work out.
Yeah, Amberite nerves have to regenerate--after all, Corwin could see, five years down the line after having had his eyes put out with a poker. Mind, they'd probably have regenerated faster if he'd been getting fed appropriately. Hm. Dworkin's madness--senility setting in, or the Pattern-damage?
