. . Okay, then.

I actually have clue one for the meme requests for Falcons' Feathers and Chevalier de Grammont, the remaining many-request stories.

I also appear to have an inkling of clue one for the Trickwood Unification. (dear fuck, it's way more than one novel I could actually start Wild Roses here fuuuuuuck)

Clue One means chunks of jigsaw puzzle, not ( Read more... )

an intermittent fault - early Chevalier de Grammont, Sinclair and Grammont

--

Her gravity coils were fluctuating. Not a lot, not in a way that spelled trouble--for him or whatever was making her twitchy--but enough to be noticeable. Enough that he was getting tense.

The second time he caught himself easing his hand towards a knife, he stood up, found a wall, and drummed on it gently with the edge of his fist.

"Grammont--" he started, and the nearest speaker-grille made a 'grraiyghr' noise that sounded disturbingly organic.

"Grammont," he repeated, louder, and tried not to flinch when her gravity clenched around him, held him still for a breathless second before smoothing out to what should have been inoffensive normality, floor below him, ceiling above, no tilts anywhere, no lingering sense of lightness or worrying weight ( ... )

Very early, yes, and I'm not sure she realised it was actually a problem as opposed to just a feature of being in a human-designed-and-built stable?

This is lovely. It does feel very early, especially with the mismatch in sounds to intent with that sigh and Sinclair's...caution isn't quite the word I want, but it's close.

This is a really neat segment of time to see. <3

coloured glass - Chevalier de Grammont, Grammont and Sinclair

--

"--yes, I promise to avoid making any sudden turns," her human said dryly, and the worried human--the priest, her files corrected her, the combination of black robe, black cap, heavy beard, ornate cross worn long throwing up an extremely specific flag--smiled ( ... )

*pokes at the priest* I might be translating this wrong, but. Having Sinclair and Grammont be second choice makes sense, but his comment to Sinclair doesn't necessarily indicate that the two of them had discussed his selection process. And it's Sinclair, so I'm wondering if they did. With that said, the priest commenting that he would have gone with someone else seems...kind of out of place? Kind of rude, honestly.

Combined with the fact that he's vocalizing his worry about the cargo to the point where his courier is obviously growing irritated and bringing pointed attention to taking a loss on the job (I'm assuming potential loss only, because otherwise it's...uh. yeah.), this entire setup feels a bit off.

I think Sinclair's being creepy again, because you're right, the priest hasn't discussed his selection process with them. The impression I had was that the guy was supposed to have arranged delivery some time ago, had been putting it off, and is now having to flail around in the alternate options when the regular courier said 'uh, no' to an 'OMG RIGHT NOW' request.

Sinclair's also irritated enough to be considering whether it's worth taking the rep hit in order to shop the cargo around elsewhere. He's definitely adding surcharges onto the job estimate for speed and safe delivery, and the guy's wringing his hands and going 'but will it be SAFE?'.

calm before the storm and Fintain - Wild Roses pre-wars era (the lady ambassador has appeared in as she means to go on and since last we danced)

--

"Fintain," Aleron began, trying not to imply he was remembering all too clearly what Fintain had been like at twenty--though he was, Lost Winter he was-- "I don't think she needs a whole ship's worth of tea."

"Well, I can't give her keys to the city--because I'm not an idiot, Allé--" Fintain flicked his fingers like someone younger might have rolled their eyes, "she hasn't been much interested in the restaurants down in the harbour, but she did like that tea we had last time she came to beard you in your lair ( ... )

*daintily applauds Aleron*

Poor Aleron, having to deal with Fintain. Good use of him, though.

It is a delicate art, deploying one's half-siblings. (and sometimes one's full sibling, especially if you don't want her to NOTICE you're aiming her.)
