New and interesting ways to give yourself a headache - Trickwood Unification, Hernén and Ulysse

"There are more efficient ways to do that, y'know," a baritone said conversationally from very close range, and Hernén jerked awake, trying to sit up and get his hands free at the same time.

Or he would have, if moving his head hadn't made pain flare like white phosphorus behind his eyes.

Overtop of the extremely pained noise he made, the baritone added "Ways that don't make Geoffrey call me in a panic, even, because you'd collapsed in a heap and he couldn't get you to wake up."

It wasn't until a cold hand brushed his hair back off his forehead so that cold palms could make contact with his skin, fingers covering brow-ridge to cheekbone, thumbs coming down to frame his nose as he turned into the touch, that he registered who the voice belonged to.

No wonder none of his alert spells had gone off--not that they would really have helped, if what he was saying was true.

He tried to ask "What happened?", but it came out as a swirl of vowels.

Ulysse pinched the bridge of his nose between the pads of his thumbs. "You forgot to throw anything but intent, brother mine. You're lucky it didn't kill you."

"Mn," Hernén said, gradually noticing that Ulysse's hands both weren't warming up, and that the nausea was receding. "Quelqu'un--?"

"You got very lucky," Ulysse amended, carefully peeling his hands off Hernén's head. "But that wolf of yours looked like she was planning to take a chunk out of you if you woke up. Maybe even if you didn't--"

"Elle n'a--"

"Sure she isn't," and Ulysse was laughing at him, even if it wasn't out loud. "Want to try a cup of broth?"

I think I need to ask Geoffrey wtf he was doing--he doesn't seem to remember. One can only assume it seemed like a good idea at the time (or at least the best of a list of bad-to-very-bad options).

""Quelqu'un--?"

What language is Hernen using, here?

"You got very lucky," Ulysse amended, carefully peeling his hands off Hernén's head. "But that wolf of yours looked like she was planning to take a chunk out of you if you woke up. Maybe even if you didn't--"

Those wolves need a support group. Wolves Attached To Crazy Magebloods.

French, surprisingly enough. :)

And yes, yes they do. Possibly founded by several Hands who had to deal with crazy mages as well as crazy magebloods.
