"a smell so bad it's almost impossible to work around" - Trickwood Unification, princestaennynAugust 5 2010, 18:01:24 UTC
"This may," Ruadhan panted, trying desperately not to take the deep breath his body wanted him to, "be the most disgusting thing you've ever involved me in."
"That I've ever--" Donel cut himself off for much the same reason as his little brother, glaring, then took another tiny puff of air, eyes watering. "This is the most disgusting thing I've ever been involved in at all."
"Less talk," Hernén put in, slogging in between them to heave at the rotting edge of the bloated carcass' ribcage, "more work." As he tore off another piece and tossed it vaguely towards Ruadhan, they all felt Geoffrey catch it and yank.
"Why isn't he down here with the rest of us?" Ruadhan asked after they ripped off a bigger chunk and threw that too, shielding just a little too late to miss another wave of smell and a shower of pieces.
"He's the only one who can get this thing away from water," Hernén replied, scraping at his clothes with his hands and visibly trying not to retch. "Trust me, if we had another option, I'd be taking it."
"Now who's talking too much?" Donel growled, glaring at the remaining mess. After a thoughtful moment, he added "Baby brother, find me a sword no one wants."
Before Ruadhan could reply--it looked like it would have been to the effect of 'find your own wyvern-shit sword'--Hernén asked "Would a machete do?"
"Fine," Donel replied, half-absently, and Hernén took a deep breath he needed but really, really didn't want, and grabbed for the closest of the Navy armouries he'd known once.
His aim was off, but their reflexes were good, and Ruadhan didn't even bother growling much about nearly getting hit on the head with the hilt of a water-chasing machete.
"Ulysse going to mind?" Donel asked, halfway through the spine, and Hernén gave him a closed-lip grin.
"If he does I'm going to remind him of that time he made me deal with a whale-carcass."

:)
The whale carcass, I believe, had beached/washed up Right Next to a navy facility and was bloating to the point of there being a v. real threat of it asploding all over Everything.
So Ulysse, being somewhat evil, delegated the job of getting rid of said to Hernén.

So very much communicated, right there. *snerk* Makes me curious about the whale carcass, and why it needed dealing with.
