I love the idea of a badly brought up motor.

But there was no other descriptor for the way this light flowed, wrapped lovingly around the shapes of the storage pots and curving up the wall, laying itself down over her legs and feet, thick and golden as honey.
It as much as gave her an engraved invitation to settle down and nap for a while, blanketed in light and warmth instead of fabric, but she dragged herself to her feet instead, staggered slightly as her blood redistributed itself to equilibrium, and left the storage room. Naps in sunbeams were only a good idea when someone knew you were there; disappearing would trigger a search.
Hazel stretched as far as she could, hands still far short of brushing the ceiling, and went to find Sascha or her father, before they missed her. She'd report that the stores were still free of vermin, when she found great-uncle Iarlaith or Uncle Hernén, but she'd find her sister first.

"It was not supposed to rain today," Arianhrod muttered, glaring at the wet-cloth sky, even as her shoulders hunched in, trying to minimise her profile.
Ulysse couldn't help it--he started laughing, long and loud and delighted, throwing his head back and letting the water run down his face. A gust of sodden wind slapped him upside the back of his head, and he turned back to grin at his shivering sister. "Aria, you look like a wet cat."
She bristled, which hardly helped her case.
After a moment, he shook his head at her, reached out a couple of fingers, and yanked. Her hair puffed out as the water was sucked out of it, spinning across the deck in typhoon manner before hitting the rail and going over.
She gave him a long, level look, and he was just starting to worry about being capsized when he heard her emit a tiny snicker.
Which was when the first ball of water hit him in the side.
