Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Jul 27, 2007 16:21

It's been exactly a week since this happened so memories are not completly fresh ut they aren't long forgotten. And it was a very cool night packed with the usual problems we always have and the long time waiting for the book was finally going over.

On the night of the july 20th I left work all very excited and crazy and hyper, and went to my place to wait for my dad, to arrived, when he was finally home my little brother decided he wanted to go with us as well, so he had to take his dinner before leaving the house and head to the book store.
Then the time to leave was upon us but my big brother was.. completely sleep!!!!! It took us about 30 min to get that other brother ready so over all we left the house around 9.40pm, thought it was too late but it happens that rtraffic was inout favor, and we reached the book store withing 30 min, I called Loops and waited for her inside, figuring out where the pre-ordered books were going to be picked up and where the non pre-order were.
The hell got lose, we heard rummors that the UK version of the books didnt' arrived on time for the midnight sale!! It was outrageous! I had pre-ordered childrens books!! So I went to information desk and realised that no only UK Adult version weren't there but children's one did. So I was relieved, and decided to get the ticket they told me to get for my book to be picked up. I got me and Loops' a her friends ticket and headed to make the line, and found Loops and her friend on myw ay there, once there her friend went to see other friends of her and we stayed there chatting, then more hell! A manager of the store was checking the tickets and they realised that one of the books I had pre-order wasn't book 7!!!! and it wasn't even my mistake, it was theirs! and they didn't let us get a US version of the book or any version as pre-ordered one! and since Loops' friend was the last one I had made, she had to do the loooong line witht he people who didn't pre-ordered it.
Long story short we all got our books but Loops' friend was a bit angry about it, but things ended up well.
Now the actual countdown was AMAZING the book palce was packed with people in robes, there where people with their Quidditch uniforms and even brooms!! and wands aroudn everywhere slytherings chattign with hufflepuffs and Gryffindors packing the place whith few Ravenclaws around, there were Dementors hanging from the place, and there was even a mandrake and a very funny basilik in there as well.
When was 1 hr left til midnight, the books tore started to make announcements, '1 hr til midnight'. then '30 min til midnight' then '15 min til midnight' '10 min' '5 min' ONEMINUTE and screams came every time they did it... and the one minute annoucement was made people got on their feet, the cameras that where there (and that filmed around and interviewed people and Loops and I were escaping from them) they started to get ready close to the cashier and then... countdown fro 10 to 0 started, peopel shouting and then.. SCRAEMS all around the book store people got the books out and showed it like if harry had just won the first task on the triwizard Tournament... (you can actually watch that on the reuters link I posted not so long ago) And it was bouncing and people excited, and there even were 2 gryffindors with a hand made banner very crappy one with the words: Harry must die!! written int hem. good thing it was just to make more noise LOL.
The place was shakign with so much excitment and the logn wait to actually pay was stressfull, but it was totally worth it, the countdown was ore exciting than a new years eve party!
Once we were done with out book we headed downstairs to teh exit.. but then Loops' friend was still in the line so we stayed with her and her friends waiting for her to get the book. by the time we left it was already 2 am!!! and I read the whole first chapter on the car with my cellphone's light (it has a light not the screen light I'd be blind if I had done that)

And that was it, it was amazing and I have pics for it that I'll try to post later, but now some of my thoughts on DH.. PLEASE DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ DEATHLY HALLOWS, am gonna be writting a lot of SPOILERS

1. First of all, I have to say I LOVE the book, I know is such a simpel statement but I adore it, it was amazing, the way it was written is not complicarted writting nor extraodinary either... but the imagination and the story itself was.

2. Hedwig dying! OMG it was SO SAD!!!! and so fast and so unexpected! I loved that Owl. Am sure not as much as Harry being his oly companion in those long hours with the Dursleys (what became of them I wonder)

3. The 7 Potters was amazing! George's ear!! it was so worrying and Mad eye I've never gasped like I did when I read he was dead.

4. The Dumbledore memorials, I actually almsot cried with Dodge's letter and from there it was a constant crying with this book. In fact Rita's version despite evil and rude.. I think it was a great thing to do, made Dumbledore human, not an almost god-like wizard.

5. DOBBY!!! one of the sadest deaths and beautiful burials in the whole world, I literallyc ried with him. He died like a hero.

6. Speaking of heroes NEVILLE! I've loved him so much and he grew up so much since the last book with the DA but in this, he was a real fighter... and I almost cried again when his grandma told he was true son of his parents.and she was proud. I was proud of him such an adorable boy.

7. Lupin!!! and Tonks I was SO sad when I read their names... the first thing that poped into my head when I read Lupin's name among the dead ones, was.. this is it, the marauders are gone.. all of them, wormtail cowardly gone but the rest of them proud OotP members, all beloevd friends they all gone. It was extremely sad.

8. Fred... my beloved fred, one of my beloved Weaslye's. This was so incredibly shocking it was Sirius' death all over again it was so fast so quick.. I had to go back and read it twice to be sure I had read what I had read. And all Ic ould think of was Poor George, the jokes and laughs.. all the happy memories and weasley's joke shope, they all flashed before my eyes when i read it it was like. really sayign goodbye to him with Mrs Weasley shaking abover her son.. I knew one of my beloved Weasley's will die i was just inc omplete denial it'd be one fo the twins. Am teary already just remmebering about it!

9. Snape was on Dumbledore's side I KNEW IT! I knew it!!! and it was also extremely sad, one sided love for all his life. Dumbledore was right though Voldemort never understood the power of Love, how much he had lost and how much he never understood and passed by as non important, just for not ever feeling it. Poor Snape gave his life for love, the love not reciprocated, btu love nontheless. I can only imagine the pain it must have caused him to see her not only dying but to have to see her eyes in Harry's eyes. And yet have to protect the boy that looked so much like a guy he always hated. I never thought of him a good person, cos he still did horrible things, he still hated so much and he still couldn't care less for everyone... but for Lilly. He was evil but his soul wasn't completly damaged.

10. The sadest moment ever in my whole life reading books was Harry before entering the Forbidden Forrest, the ghost of his parents, Lupis and Sirius there with him encouraging him to die.. for the greater good. I was readign that on my way back home yesterday and I HAD to top I couldn't bear to keep reading it I.. justc ould't I was on the verge of tears in the bus, it was just the saddest moment in book history for me. heartbreaking when he told his mom's ghost to stay close.

11. I've heard a lot of people didn't like the epiloge, I have to say am not one of them, I keep thinking that if it wasn't there the book would half ended and left us with the feeling that there was something missing. Finishing a story right after a fight is over would've left me with a very emtpy feeling, now I know is corny, but the whole point of going to war of almost dying was to give the world a better place to live and they got it, they got their happily ever after, and what's more important we got to know harry came to terms with a lot of his ghosts.

I know there's a hell lot more of thigns I want to say but there's such a mess in my brain am not sure I can put them into words right now.

So this is it, Goodbye to Harry Potter and to... 8 years of my life, I started to read as soonas it came here to Mexico city, I devoured the books I remember having to wait for book 4. They've been such a hughe part of my life in the past years that am gonna miss not having to wait for the new one. I actually miss it already.
