Recently I listened to a wide variety of Kmusic genres including pop, rock, jazz, electronic pop - and luckily found out some artists that leave strong impressions on me.
I just want to list their some of their names below for future reference.
Pop
- Lee Eun Mi
- Lee Sun Hee
I also want to include the queen of digital charts Baek Ji Young but honestly her name is already customarily remembered.
R&B
- Lyn: I love her various cover songs, but her style.
-Tomtom: in my opinion, the strongest, most beautiful R&B songs in Korean music market. But she just released several songs up until now.
-Piggy Dolls: despite their plain name and young age, their musicality 's really impressive.
Jazz
Lee Sora - Jazz, but I'm not sure about the specific classification of Jazz.
Winter Play - their musicality was highly praised by a journalist so I got to know them...yes their music lives up to expectations.
Rock artists
Every single day - indie band with powerful bass and drum. Vocals 're quite underwhelming imo.
Hot potato - many good songs sang by strong vocals.
Seo Taiji - the king of Korean rock and hiphop genre.
Cho Yong Pil - not quite rock but kinda.
10cm - yes I just fall in love with their music for no specific reason :)
I was also very touched by their national folklore: "Arirang". Their folklore like OST Dae Jang Geum is way more beautiful and melodic.
Of course the above list is by no means representative for the whole music genres save for my personal music taste. Those are just some random names popping in my mind. So I guess I will create a more comprehensive note next time.
Besides, here are my thought about Korean Music. Along with idol music, which is mainly electronic buble-gum popdance and intensively promoted, there is still a huge scene of Korean music industry with an abundant range of voices worth paying attention to. Now my interest in Korean music has not only stayed in the boundary of idol music and stage performances but also expanded to underrated artists's products.
