(no subject)
My English is usually good enough for anything I want to do, but recently I realized that spoken English seems harder for me to understand than spoken American (or is that mid-Atlantic? I love that expression, and I'm not good enough at accents to recognize where one starts and the other begins). Two things that made me realize that - watching an undubbed show with that team that does shows on farms of different eras etc (I usually call them "Ruth and the guys", don't know how else to name them) and listening to a history podcast with Mary Beard as a guest. I do understand probably 90 percent at least, but it's not relaxing - my mind has to be switched on all the time.
Then again, maybe it's also the fact that both my examples are dialogues - I listen most often to lectures and lecture-type podcasts, and they are probably more _smooth_ than when people talk to each other.
P.S.: I remember trying to listen to English comedy and failing, but I haven't tried that in a while (because I'm not much of a comedy fan in general)
