Contrary to some people's expectations, I do not much like historical novels. Most of them feel a bit like OOC fanfics to me... If I'm interested enough in the period to be reading about it, I do not want other people's imagination obscuring the issue.
There are always exceptions, of course. For example, I loved Anya Seton's Catherine, and it forever made me a bit fond of John of Gaunt. Maybe it was a sign that I'll never be a good Ricardian... *sigh*
