Book reviews

Dec 17, 2004 12:07

For last approximately 1,5 years I've been keeping a list of the books I read (including rereads, but excluding incomplete reads). I've done such a thing when I was at school but then abandoned it for a long time. This time I was inspired by the50bookchallenge, and the list's still going. Also, I'm trying to write down my thoughts about each book, because I'm trying to teach myself to be more analytical.

However, I'm not sure whether 50bookchallenge still suits me. I continue to post the books I've read there, since I can be obsessive about things like this, and occasionally I get interesting comments and advice, but mostly the recommendations there are useless, since most of the books other people are reading and recommending are unavailable here in Russia. The number 50 feels arbitrary, at least for me - I think I've long passed 100 for this year, and I've been quite busy and had little time for reading. Also, since it's a busy community, I can't keep track of my own reviews.

So, I'm not sure about what to do next. Should I start cross-posting my book reviews to this journal, or leae the community altogether and only post the book reviews here? But in this case there'll be a danger of this journal being bogged down in book lists - as I've said, I read rather fast. Another possibilities that come to my mind are posting big chunks of the book list at once (either when I have 5 or 10 books, or making weekly or monthly reading reviews) or posting only the reviews of the books where I have a lot to say. I've been thinking about this for a long time but, as always, I'm slow in coming to a decision.

Meanwhile I'm reading Robin Hobb's Royal Assassin, with some difficulties. It's one of those books I'm reading with great interest but have trouble returning to after I put it down for a while. Perhaps I keep expecting unpleasant things; so I entertain myself with various rereads in the intervals, from Chmielewska to Asprin.
