Put Your Paws Up, Little Monsters!

It would take something epic for me to finally update my journal...

and something epic it is!

This past week, I was able to attend The Monster Ball....or rather, The Monster Ball Tour 2011 Starring Lady GaGa. Presented by Virgin Mobile.

For those of you who don't know, I am a HUGE Lady Gaga fan, which I guess makes me a Little Monster *Does Claw Hand Thing*, at least according to the Mother Monster herself. Huzzah.

I've literally had my tickets for almost six months and was counting down the minutes the day of the event.

NOTHING WAS GOING TO SCREW THIS UP FOR ME. NOTHING.

Fortunately...nothing did.

I left early, got there early, purchased my Merch, found my seat, enjoyed the opening act and rocked out for two hours to all my favorite GaGa music.

Her opening act on my leg of the tour was a quite fabulous, foul mouthed glam rock band called Semi Precious Weapons. These gentlemen were delightfully fun, loud, and irreverent in all the ways that make rock concerts great. Sparkly shoes, guys in skirts, loud music, and guy liner. Their set didn't drag like some other opening acts I have seen. It was quite energetic and they were talented. Also, their music was so loud, I felt like someone was lightly punching my ribcage. There's nothing quite like that feeling.

Then, it was time for the main event.

Yes. It was worth every minute of waiting.

Quite simply put, The Monster Ball Tour is the best "show" style concert I have ever seen. It has actual scene changes, high production values and it just flat out rocks. If you even sort of like Lady Gaga, The Monster Ball is definitely worth checking out. The friend I went with is a lukewarm fan, but they were very impressed. If you ever have the chance to see this show, do not miss it. Words cannot accurately convey just how amazing it is to see live.

The opening with the screen and experimental film/art photography as a prelude to the start of "Dance In The Dark," complete with a countdown was amazing. It captured the mood very well.

As the show went on, I bore witness to a parade of ridiculously complicated choreography, phenomenal costume designs, and high energy performances from Lady Gaga through the entire two hour show.

She sang Gaga staples like "Just Dance," "Telephone," "LoveGame," "Poker Face," "Bad Romance," and "Alejandro," as well as the super new (and amazing) "Born This Way," and lesser known hits like "Teeth," "Boys, Boys, Boys," and "Monster" (one of my GaGa faves that gets NO RADIO PLAY). The set changed from seedy city, to scary forest, to...I'm not sure, but there was a giant angler fish puppet that she called "The Fame Monster." Works for me.

My favorite performance of the night was easily "Paparazzi" which featured the aforementioned fish puppet and Gaga in a very adorable aquamarine dress with puffy diamond shapes around the skirt and bodice. At the end of the number, she popped up wearing a sparking bra and panties set that ended up "killing" The Fame Monster and "setting everyone free." Yay.

The Encore was the dancified version of "Born This Way."

The Hime approves.

I went around today in my Monster Ball shirt and tons of people asked me how it was.

The answer?

Amazing.

awesome, lady gaga, irl
