13 Days of Darkstar 6: Dark Love, Part 4

A return to an unfinished fic from last year's 13 Days of Darkstar!
May continues to crush on the school's golden boy, but something feels amiss!  Does she have a sixth sense or is she just heartsick?  Only time will tell!

Dark Love, Part 4

May could hardly believe it.

Michael Morningstar was talking to her.

Not just talking to her...having a conversation with her and walking her to class.  May clutched her diary to her chest and felt her palms grow sweaty.  She had never imagined ever being so close to him and having him actually care what she said.  May thought she must look like she was wandering around in a daze, but Michael acted as if he didn’t notice at all.  He smiled, nodded, and opened doors when they came to them.  May felt like she had died and gone to Heaven and wondered if she hadn’t.

Perhaps she had keeled over and head a heart attack while running to school, just like Grace was always telling her.  Well, if this was the afterlife, it wasn’t so bad.  She could live with it, for lack of a better word.

An angry tap on the shoulder brought her back down to Earth. May looked bacl to see an angry Grace glaring at her.

“Where have you been?  I had to leave class to look for you!  Damn it, May!  I’m tired of being your babysitter,” Grace scolded.

May shrank back from her twin.

“No...you see...I had...and accident and I...I ran into Michael and I..,”

Grace cut her off.

“Jesus.  She’s so clumsy.  I’m sorry, Michael,” Grace sighed.

Michael smiled and patted May on the shoulder.  May felt her cheeks flush in embarrassment.

“No, it was entirely my fault.  May didn’t do anything wrong.  I’m just making sure she gets back to class alright,” Michael explained.

May thought his voice sounded like aural silk.  It was perfect.  He was perfect.  He was even standing up for her.  She would have to write about that in her diary later.  It was like every dream she had ever had was coming true.  Well, almost every dream.  If only he would ask her to Homecoming and kiss her on the dance floor during a slow song, then all her dreams would come true.

She blinked when Michael’s bright blue eyes looked into hers.

“Is this your class, May?” He asked, cocking his head toward the door.

May looked.

Room 32-B. Creative Writing.

She nodded.

“Y-yes.  It is,” May answered, suddenly feeling very sorry it was.

She felt Michael’s hand press flat against her back and she felt warm all over.  He pushed her slightly forward.

“Well, then, best go inside before the teacher marks you absent.  I’ll see you soon, May,” he promised.

May nodded and carefully chose her steps and motions very carefully while entering the room.  When she turned around to see if Grace had followed her in for their first class, she found that neither her sister, nor Michael was in the hallway anymore.  May swallowed before rushing to her seat and carefully easing her diary open to a blank page.

Word by word, moment by moment, she wrote down the events of the morning, taking time to particularly detail her interactions with Michael.  Her heart fluttered in her chest as she wrote until she reached the part about him and Grace disappearing.  That made her stomach flip uneasily for some reason.
