I was going to write a review of John Bellairs books generally. . but then I discovered he died in 1991. At 53.
Bellairs wrote mystery suspense books for kids.As an 80s kid I always bought them at bookfairs and those Scholastic checklist things. Recent re-read a few. They stand up really well. And the artwork by Edward Gorey is pretty cool too.
I had seen recent reprints of the old titles (with a decidedly Harry Potter-ish cover art) and had just assumed that he was still alive.
Alas.
Off to explore a chilly Concord, New Hampshire this afternoon.
