Bonus with last night's lunar show

Saturn! ^_^ Which was cool. Along with the eclipsed moon, Saturn made a beautiful appearance. With the presence of another star shining close by, the three celestial bodies formed a broad triangle in the sky that gently twisted over the course of several hours. It was spectacular to watch!

There was some heavier cloud cover that kept getting in the way of the moon just past nine, a bit after the initial shadowing began to occur. That had me a little worried that I might miss the whole thing again. Thankfully, it cleared away a little before ten, and I was able to catch it from the first tinge of red.

Wow... You know, you almost get a feel for the terror and awe of early humans. This event that we wait for, that we watch with delight from our backyards, can you imagine seeing the eclipse without knowing what was causing it? This constant of night, always brilliant, slowly dims and turns red, leaving you in a dark and dangerous world, a target for predators you can no longer see. Does it frighten you enough to make you run from it? As for ancient civilizations, well, there's no wonder why celestial events like the lunar eclipse drove priests to perform sacrifices.
