I slept a few winks, I had a few drinks
To dull the blade in my mind;
It twists with the skill of a dancer, but still
Can't cut away from its bind.
When I let you into my thoughts, your bare feet
Would've tattered, if not for your grace.
So bow, and go spin on light toes within
The dangers of that darkened place.
I laugh and you sigh, I collapse, you reply
With a look of love as I sleep.
The earth holds us tight; lay still, it's all right,
We're not really buried so deep.
When I let you into my mind, you repeat
A lyric I can't quite discern.
Bring it along; I'm sick of every song
But I still need some fuel to burn.
Now the flesh is all gone, and I'm chewing on
The bones of a life in decay;
There may be some marrow that we could share, though
Not if we leave things this way.
When I let you into my mind, you were thin
From your years of wandering the plain.
Did my wavering will feed you your fill,
Is that the reason your bare feet remain?
Your fingers are light in my hair, and I'd fight
To keep you close, if only you'd stay.
I sigh, and you smile, and after a while
We're both chewing on bones where we lay.
When I let you into my mind, you danced in
Like life could be lifted and swayed.
There's only one law: how strong is your jaw,
And are your teeth sharper than my blade?
