Here Lies your Stupid Little Dog

Feb 08, 2009 12:18

The child in my head begs once more to hear the story
Of why he's been banished to live forever in that shell
I hear your little dog who's constantly at war, we
Imprinted our dreams on that little dog so well

I grab my coat, my eyes a moat
That you can no longer hope to pass
I jot down a note as I step by rote
To my two-seater parked across the grass

Somehow I'm never able to avoid
The shadow of that which we've destroyed
Somehow I find at night, while you're still dreaming
That I alone am woken by the child's screaming

Beyond the steel door that shuts out their pregnant wives
Are fish too hungry not to bite hooked bait
These slaves who wring from Dhaka that which they call their lives
And put it on a one-way trip to Kuwait

I used to disappear to a corner store near here
And return with roses to decorate your slumber
With a stomach full of fear, I head back there, it's clear
That the shovel on the rack has got my number

Somehow I'm never able to avoid
The shadow of that which we've destroyed
Somehow I find at night, while you're still dreaming,
That I alone am woken by the child's screaming

Over all the little miracles he would've enjoyed
Is cast the shadow of that which we've destroyed
The child's replacement's gone from your comfort's synagogue
On my note I wrote 'Here lies your stupid little dog'
