My car decided to pick the absolute perfect time to break down. Well, in the end, I suppose it was more the piss-for-brains mechanics at Wal-Mart (I got a flat Friday night, but it ended up just being a valve problem and I had Wal-Mart fix it...the last time I ever take a car there) then my car itself, but I was still extremely irritated either way. I got my car on the Interstate to head home for Mr. Sainer's visitation on Sunday when it started to violently shake and make a sound like a helicopter trying to take off. I decided that, even though it was probably just a balance issue (which it ended up being), it was better to be safe than sorry so I turned around and headed back home.
I'm sorry to everyone who expected me at the visitation. I really, really wanted to be there...to have my opportunity to say goodbye...but thanks to a mechanic who didn't do his job, I wasn't able to make it. My deepest sympathy goes out to the Sainer family for their loss. I wish I could have conveyed it in person, but such is life.
Not only did the mechanic screw up my tires, but he also messed with my window. For the last few months, my driver side window has been out of commision. It was up, but it just wasn't working properly. Well, I guess at Wal-Mart they have a policy that if they pull in a car, they lower the window (I guess they have a problem with idiot mechanics locking the keys in the car...go figure). As they pulled out my car, my stomach sank when I saw the window was down. I was able to get it up almost all the way, but it was still open about an inch. Sunday was fine, considering it was a crisp 70 degrees here in Carbondale, but then things went south and it started to rain...heavily. I took my car to have the window looked at today, as well as getting the balance taken care of. They were unable to fix the window without replacing the regulator, so more money was sucked out of my pocket for that. Woo.
There was, however, a very slight silver lining to my dark cloud on Sunday. I picked up some extra hours in the RT lab which equals more money in my pocket, and that's always needed, especially after having to have the window fixed. Plus, a neighbor in the trailer park was broken into, and if I hadn't been home that evening, it could have very well been mine, also.
So, as always, I put my trust in the universe and it's ability to balance things out.
I'll see everyone over Spring Break next week. I'm really looking forward to getting home.
