So, I've been going to class for a week and a half now, and I'm getting pretty used to the schedule. At first, it was a little hectic. It's kind of crazy that I have to leave a half hour early just to drive less than two miles, plus take into account that about twenty five percent of the time the parking lots are completely full, so you have to go scrounge at another one. I seriously need a bike.
I pretty much signed my life away the other day. I went thirty thousand dollars in debt. I'll be using a percent of that money to pay off my car and what I've got on my credit card. It bothers me, but I know that if I put in the effort in the next two years, finding a job, and more importantly a good paying job, won't be as hard as if I didn't go to college. Not to mention it allows me to accomplish my dream.
No job. It sounds crazy but it's awesome. I can't remember a time when I had nothing to do at all during the day. I'm not trying to sound like I do nothing, it's just that it's awesome to be able to do stuff instead of not being able to because of a job. Not to mention that I will be getting federal work study, so I'll have a job about five to ten hours a week, just nothing like what I had before.
So, what do I do with my free time? Well, for one thing, I've started DJing at the local student radio station. Nothing much yet, just a few training sessions, but I have gotten to talk on air and run the soundboard and stuff. It's awesome, and at the same time very relaxing. I have my own spot now at 2pm every Monday, starting this Monday. It's an Internet radio station, so it can be heard anywhere there's a computer. You can find the link at
www.widb.net". I'm on The Revolution.
I'm also doing part time work in the recording labs. The Recording Tech class here rocks. The teacher talks about working with Prince, which is...interesting. At least I can now personally confirm he's an egotistical maniac and a control freak, just like I always thought. Sounds like next year I'll get the opportunity to intern in Nashville, Tennessee. Just so long as it's not in a country music recording studio. Blues, hell yes. Country, absolutely not.
Met a shit ton of people since I moved up here. A few who were at Bonnaroo this year. I almost know that I saw Ben there. He's one of the main guys at the radio station. Distantly reminds me of Joey. He's got crazy looking long hair. Then again, everyone at Bonnaroo had crazy looking long hair.
I've shifted my sleeping habits since I moved here. Instead of nights up until 3 or 4 in the morning, I've been hitting the sack at 10:30 or 11 most nights, and up by 9. The ease in the transition really surprised me, but having almost no social life made it easier. I've been out a few times, but nothing really substantial. Gone back to Olney twice, mostly just to get things I forgot or didn't have room for, but also to see friends.
There was a Pink Flood show in Charleston that rocked my socks off this weekend. I was wearing an SIUC shirt and completely forgot I was on EIU'S turf. I told Jeff I was afraid of getting my ass kicked. He smiled and said, "They know where you go to school and they know where you party." It was a kick ass night...I really needed it.
I'm working hard, I'm studying, classes look completely doable just so long as I don't fuck up and get lazy.
Here's hoping.
I really want a fucking piano. Dammit. Money sucks. When you don't have it, at least.
