Germany Abandons Nuclear Power. Really?

Jun 01, 2011 13:25

Let's think about this.

Sea level is rising, storms are becoming more powerful AND more numerous.

And Germany wants to shut down their squatty little reinforced nuclear plants, and replace them with what, Solar Panels? Like, up on the ROOF? Windmills ("turbines"_)? Like, up on a tower? As the heavy clouds blow in (blocking the sun), snow piles up, tornadic winds rip structures to pieces?

Or maybe Germany will rise to the former glory of the Fatherland, by figuring out how to process obese Americans into biodiesel.

Maybe the Japanese shouldn't have been running first generation nuke plants without more extensive safety upgrades, but walking away from nuclear power is not in the interest of humans hoping to maintain, or attain, a middle class lifestyle, with reliable clean water, central heat, and air conditioning.

It makes far more sense for America, and other aspiring economies, to abandon the automobile, to use our stored fat to bicycle a few miles to a mass transit stop, to mandate passive solar heat management in new AND existing homes.

Solar cells and wind turbines, in Northern climates, are the Emperor's New Clothes. I'm not buying any.
