PS3 Purged and Resurrected

Oct 04, 2010 21:42

The PS3 lives; but it has a new system name, and no memory of its previous existenz.

It did not allow me to copy the photographs stored on its hard drive to removable media.

It required rebooting into "Safe Mode", several times, to:
Restore default settings
Restore File System (was corrupted)
Rebuild Database (Hard Disk not found)
Restore PS3 System (basically, wipe all stored info, and build a new bootable disk image from the firmware)

All user account information was gone. The wireless controllers and keyboard needed re-pairing, audio and video outputs reconfigured, etc.

It still knew it was firmware 3.5 though. Frakkers.

I haven't bothered with the WiFi configuration, or Playstation Network yet, which I'll need when I get around to installing Internet NetFlix.

BD playback seems to be working. Finally.

At least they didn't break the hardware.

resurrection, sony, ps3, upgrade, firmware
