We got scurvy and Mexico's flag, somehow missed Dr. Evil's cat, got the president and the Dow, bit it hardcore on DLP, salpingectomy (we guessed saliva gland removal), James Earl Ray, and the phobia, and actually managed to get beating, after something like a ten minute debate.

Other reasons people are fantastic:

Various discussions of people who got diseases because vitamin deficiencies.

* How many stocks are in the Dow Jones Industrial average?

Either not enough or too many, judging by the state of my tiny TIAA/CREF account. - j00j

Not as many as there were last year. - shelly_rae

* When referring to video what does "DLP" stand for?

Don't Let's Pirate - tanaise

* What is spheksophobia?

Fear of... your mom? - bibliogrrl

Fear of these kinds of questions - timakers

* In sailing terminology, what is meant by "beating"?

When you are racing another boat, and you're in the lead, but then they board your ship, and you have to hit them with baseball bats until they limp off your ship and fall behind...that's beating. - carolineyoachim

I should know this one after making my way through most of Hornblower and Patrick O'Brian, but sometimes I just let the terminology wash over me and just make sure that the main character has not accidentally fallen overboard. Again. - cyphomandra

Addendum: If you feel like you got 'beating' right but I put you as 'Close', or similar, feel free to point out why I'm wrong. Our team got it right, but certainly not because of me, and I'm not exactly clear on when the definition ends and other stuff begins.
