Okay, so. Let’s talk about cancel culture.

Cancel culture isn’t what a lot of folks think it is.

If I think someone has done something truly awful (like, say, funding the execution of gay people) then I'm going to boycott them.

And if them doing something that awful isn't enough to stop my friend Bob giving them money, then I'm going to have questions about Bob's morality. And a comment or two. And I'm going to have to think about my relationship with Bob, because if Bob is happy for some of their money to go towards executing gay people then I don't think I want to spend time around them.

None of this seems at all surprising or out of the ordinary to me. This seems, fundamentally, to be a very human way to be.

The issue, to me, is in more nuanced situations. Or when nobody has ever said to Bob "If you give these people money then they use it to fund the execution of gay people", so they haven't had the chance to stop doing so.
