they put toys in grocery stores so that kids will push to get a toy.

Yup. It's not done for the benefit of the parents. Parents would like to buy groceries without having their children begging for toys from the toy aisle.

whenever I go into any store -- even a car mechanic -- I tell my son that I'm not buying him ANYTHING, unless I'm actually planning on getting him something. No more impulse buying of cheap plastic crap.

At least for him.

And yes this is totally idiotic - but remember, this is made for 3 year olds. Brains the size of walnuts. Those are the kids that the teletubbies were made for. It's ALL made of stupid. :D
