As a guy, my tendency is to be defensive, because I never signed on to oppress anyone, it just sorta happened. So with that in mind, and knowing full well my own capacity for bias, I ask:
So how much of the responsibility lies in the hands of men who relish this manner of oppression, how much lies in the hands of men who are reluctant by-standers, how much of it lies in the hands of women who want equality, and how much of it lies in the hands of women whose behavior - for one reason or another - also enforces this unfortunate state of affairs?
I worded the question for convenience, not accuracy; the objective was to determine and divide the responsibilities along the axis of gender, as well as along the axis of awareness (in the literal sense, not as in 'enlightened understanding'). I see myself as being an aware male. What do I do from here?
To be blunt, arguments for the pervasiveness of inequality of every sort are a dime-a-dozen. What I find harder to come by is any real, meaningful discourse on what needs to be done, by whom, and why.
Also, I believe feminine products largely cost what they do because of market forces, not because of male oppression. No facts, no figures, just gut feeling. Just wanted to throw that out there :)
