catch-up

just finished a night of sushi and drinks with friends. celebration was at hand, and i spun out my infamous white russians and a few jello shots packed with coconut rum for the party. it was good to know i hadn't lost my touch at bar tending - by the end of the first glance, we were all happy and tipsy...just the right amount of silliness for trivial pursuit.

today was my unwind day....sorta (since i had the usual household chores to take care of)...and my "i get to see my hubby" day since we've only spent three nights together out of the past five and one of those nights was only for 20 minutes while i unpacked and repacked. all of the major events i was coordinating are over, concluding two long weeks and late nights. one regional conference with 180 registrants: check. one national teleconference with 69 schools in 32 states: check. one cdt: check. there's a lot remaining for me to process, but i'm mostly happy that it's over. life can begin again.

to reward myself, i bought a book...or two...ok, actually four books last night. and technically, i didn't buy them since i used a gift card. *smiLe* i went to the bookstore with the intention of purchasing just one book to last me through the weekend. but, with my saramogo in hand, i browsed through a few deals and picked up three more. they're a bit hard to resist, particularly now. next on my reading list: the cave, the namesake, the history of the people of the us, and one hundred years of solitude. woohoo.

we're getting a pup on monday. a swing by the shelter resulted in an impromptu "Love at first sight" with a terrier mix named dexter. is it the right time? who knows...in fact, probably not. will he be the companion our kitten boy wonder needs? hopefully so. all i know is that i couldn't resist and i couldn't leave him there. he's sweet, he's two and a half, and he's not agressive...plus, he has one of the cutest "happy faces" i've ever seen. so...he's coming home soon. i think i'll be 'sick' on tuesday and i'll need to rearrange some time i was planning to spend at duke to be home with him and our cat while they adjust to each other.

in other news....three down, three to go....and the moment in which i found out can only be described as surreal and weird.
