I got a new job, it's much like the old job

Got a new job fairly recently, in a sudden rush of excitement. Got a phone call on Tuesday at the start of Septemnber, inviting me in for an interview on Wednesday morning. In I went, false confidence at maximum, and by about 3PM I had another phone call inviting me back for a second interview on Thursday morning! Quickly ran out to get a second smart shirt, of which I was lacking in Harrow, and arrived bright and early Thursday morning to give what I thought was a somewhat sub-par performance. Nonetheless, before lunchtime I got another call offering me the job; these guys don't hang around, it would seem.

So, I'm doing IT adminning at a school again, and in some ways it's been instantly reminiscent of Wildern. Upon my arrival the image I'd been given of a tightly-organised workplace where everything is fully planned out fell apart - the school is new, and not quite finished being built. On my first look round it, the day before pupils started back, I had a 'Challenge Anneka' panic feeling as everybody rushed around in a frenzy trying to get things finished. In general there's a familiar atmosphere of 'well-funded but slightly disorganised' that keeps my smiling and not taking the regular WTFs too seriously.

Three weeks in and the teething troubles are mostly ironed out, but the toilet doors still won't open without an ungodly heave and the server room is usually pushing 30 Celsius. I'm the only IT guy on site, which was initially daunting until I realised how much less there is to manage. At the moment the school has youngsters up to 6 years old and a year 7 class, so there's not a great deal of IT demand from the pupils. I've also got the backing of the entire head office team and if necessary the contractors who installed the network, so I'm hardly on my own. I do however wear a suit and have been given a work phone, which makes it feel very much like a Proper Adult Job.

I'm glad to have found a job that allows me to afford the rent on a house, but it's not so terribly great being up at half five in the morning every day. I'll be moving into a house almost on top of Wembley stadium in a week or so, for which we luckily managed to score some free furniture after it transpired that there was not going to be any left behind for us.
