Death of the Double Space...

I just learned today that putting a double-space at the start of a new sentence is no longer being taught in schools. When did this happen?!? Apparently I am "old school" in this regard, and while the topic was being discussed at the office (none of us REALLY wanted to go to that meeting) one of our younger interns casually dropped the bomb that reading my e-mails can sometimes be mildly annoying because I double-space, oh, and intend at the start of a paragraph.

These practices and habits were (on a rare case, literally) beaten into me as a child... and now they are annoying.
