It's kind of silly, but...

...out of pure curiosity I did a search to find out how much it would cost me to fly to Bangkok, Thailand, and found a number of round-trip ticket offers at just under the $1000 marker. The place is very tourist friendly, a lot of people in the big cities speak at least a little bit of English, and flying out/back would require I stop at Narita International Airport (so I could a bit of shopping there too). Also, I wouldn't be required (so far) to get a tourist visa, one of the reasons why I haven't quite made it to China yet. All in all, a really nice vacation idea, and I wouldn't have thought about (or suddenly research it a bit) if it hadn't been for all the news about it right now. Go figure. *shrug*

Stopped by the local Honda dealership to look at rain gear and such before coming into work today, and bought a new pair of gloves which I like. What I didn't like was the inventory of pants/chaps available. Everything that would actually fit me (being both short of leg and wide of waist) either cost over $200 or made me look about 70 pounds heavier. Am currently on the search for someone handy with a sewing machine that could possibly make me a pair of simple snap-on/Velcro chaps using either a ballistic nylon or pack cloth (which I can later Scotch-Guard the hell out of).

Suggestions anyone?
