ICP on Chris Brown: Yeah, exactly. Ugh. Obviously the abuse itself is the cake (one big ass motherfucking cake), there is no cake without the cake, but it is some thick-ass icing that he can't even get on board with the "I fucked up, I'm sorry, I'm going to donate to a bunch of anti-abuse organizations in repentance and hope you'll forgive me in maybe a few years but understand there is no obligation" narrative; instead, he's the victim and we're all "haters" for daring to question his success as he goes on to make light of abuse in his music and not stay the fuck away from Rihanna, who needs him like a fish needs a purple motorcycle made of cats. FUCK THAT GUY.
Shirley Bassey Get the Party Started is awesome! I love artists doing their-genre covers of pop hits. Have you seen:
Here are my stats on Maroon 5: I like: Harder to Breathe, She Will Be Loved, Makes Me Wonder, Wake Up Call, Misery, Never Gonna Leave This Bed, and One More Night. I don’t care for: This Love, Sunday Morning, If I Never See Your Face Again, Won’t Go Home Without You, Moves Like Jagger, Payphone.
As you can see, it’s pretty much exactly 50-50. I don’t know if there’s even any rhyme or reason to which of these I like vs. dislike and why. I guess overall my opinion of Maroon 5 is favorable, but it’s like clockwork: I like every other hit.
My students LOVED Payphone. And Maroon 5. I sang a lot of Maroon 5 while I was in Korea. Hey, emotional association is big. The only Justin Bieber song I can stand is Eenie Meenie Miney Mo Lover, and it’s only because of my Ooshima kids and how they loved the Eenie Meenie Miney Mo chant so much I did a lesson involving the song.
It's extra funny because the Mom station here WILL NEVER STOP PLAYING "THIS LOVE" and so I hate that song forever, but "Moves Like Jagger" or "Payphone" just makes me think of my students and I get a little nostalgia-happy. No other band can install such a broad range of feelings in me! Or I guess binary, rather, since it's either "awww <3" or "OH GOD MAKE IT STOP."
Legit, the only Justin Bieber song I know is "Baby" or whatever, and that's only because it was a song in their curriculum, so I don't particular mind the Biebs or that song all that much. So long as I can now remain in blissful ignorance of anything else he does.
YESSSSS CROSS GENRE COVERS I LOVE THEM. I LOVE THEM SO HARD. I enjoy that Alanis one (that video is hilarious); I see your "My Humps" and raise you a "Seven Nation Army:"
lol Christ Brown was on some story or other on the news, I forget what, and my mom just says in a very mom-like voice, "I don't like that 'Chris Brown' very much." I died.
