Top 100 Songs of 2012

So finally I'm getting up my annual Top 100 Pop Songs list! I don't know if anybody waits with baited breath for these or anything, but I enjoy doing them as a sort of for-posterity thing.

Anyway, after two years of nonstop In Da Club Dancing Until The World Ends hyper-sampled party hits, I thought the music of 2012 was really refreshing. With my ( Read more... )

Yeah, I really don't like that her whole ~thing~ is "whiny songs about my relationships with men." Like, sometimes a good relationship ends, or your man cheats on you, or whatever, and you totally have the right to OWN those feelings, but when they're the only ones you choose to express creatively it's a little ehhhhhh. Granted, I don't own any of her albums; there may be perfectly good, not-about-a-man songs that don't get released as singles that I don't know about. In fact, I ASSUME there are, because comparing the hits of other female singers I like (Janis Joplin, Lady Gaga) to the stuff on albums that never hits the airwaves, it's astounding what gets left out. I hope there are, anyway.

Nevertheless her public image has become that "I am the woman who will write a song about you if we break up or you act shitty so watch yourself!!!" idea, and that makes me uncomfortable. It makes me uncomfortable that so many women/girls are 10000% on board with that and unequivocally consider her a Strong Female Role Model. That plus having such super-involved parents who were rich enough to own horses and multiple houses; who moved the entire family to Tennessee so she could pursue her music career paints an image of someone who is very used to getting her own way. I mean, it's not like I think her success is undeserving. I like that she plays instruments and sings; she just seems like she might be a crappy person IRL. Of course, I'd probably be more generous with my inferences if I didn't dislike her music to begin with. Oh well.

lol wow apparently I have a lot of feels about T Swift. k then

I am totes not surprised to hear that Delilah is a huge bitch because she always seemed to me to exemplify the Weird Al line, "I bet I'm a million times as humble as thou art" but still, bitch be cray. It blows my mind that she even took the time out to email someone individually (because she's a syndicated radio host, I'm sure she's kind of busy), and to take the time out to be such a raging cunt about it! Also, my local Mom station also plays John Tesh's show in the mornings. Is that also a universal feature of Mom stations?

My milestone marker for my time in Japan is the tsunami >.<

lol yeah that is not a fun memory =C

Tim Minchin is awesome. He is awesome because he is talented (as a pianist I have to rep when someone gets famous as a pop artist playing the piano), and also because he seems like a decent fellow. This interview is fantastic (even if I disagree on some minor points):
