Home for the Holidays

This Christmas was characterized most by the following quote:

"The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other". ~Burton Hillis

Christmas Eve we went to church at St. Matthew Walled Lake, with my parents and brother, then shared ham sandwiches and home-made molasses cookies at mom and dad's house. Megan found out she and grampa share some similar tastes in music. Everyone agreed that worshiping together and spending time quietly visiting is our favorite part of the Christmas celebrations. Its not the doing things, or the presents, its being together that's special. We then went home to open gifts before Mike sang at St. Matthew in Westland.

Christmas Day Mike sang at St. Matt's, we breakfasted on Christmas crepes, then made the trip out to my brother Dean's house. More visiting with the nieces and nephews. Megan brought Scott. I teamed up with my nephew Matthew for a raucous game of Disney Scene It with all the kids. We were victorious, although there were some aspersions cast as to Matthew's uncanny skill with rolling dice. I maintain he's just lucky. Lindsey and Alyssa are getting their rooms redone for Christmas and I'm anxious to see how they decorate.

Mike's family all left for a cruise around the Hawaiian Islands. Mike couldn't get time off to go with them. Hope they're enjoying themselves. We can't wait to hear about it when they get back.

On Boxing Day, Mike made vats of spaghetti sauce. Since Erin and Khad were coming over, he also made a vegetarian sauce, using soy crumbles and tofu, which turned out amazingly good. He has a way with spices. I didn't mind it at all, and I think it pleased Khad and Erin. It was so nice to see them. We've missed Erin. Khad seems friendlier and more relaxed lately. Erin's anxious to start the new year, with a new job.

Today, we're going to see the Rodin/Claudel sculpture exhibit at the DIA with friends, Chris and Ron. I'm looking forward to that. Thursday, Megan and I will do the returns and take Erin shopping for a new work outfit. Its so nice to have Megan home. I love my people.
