Regrets and Recriminations

Willow asked Tara to clean up the mess I'd made of whatever spell they'd been working on, I apologised again and stepped out of their bedroom. I suppose things could have been far worse. I tried not to imagine what other activities I might have interrrupted in my haste to find and speak to Willow.

I lead her down to the Summer's kitchen, as I suddenly had a pressing need to make myself a soothing cup of tea. The night's events, the discovery of the ritual at Buffy's grave, the exhumation and the subsequent attack on my life by that demon had deeply unsettled me.

"Well, firstly I must warn you that it appears that we are all in danger. Someone representing a law firm has taken out a bounty on all of us. 'Those who fought by the slayer's side, and who she held dear to her heart'. Those were the exact words of the demon who tried to take my head off last night, at any rate. Luckily Angel was there to prevent that mishap from being accomplished."

I put the kettle under the tap and filled it with water, then set it on the stove to boil.

"The other thing, probably far more disturbing, is the fact that I discovered that a dark ritual was performed at Buffy's grave site. From what I could gather, an attempt was made to resurrect Buffy. To what end I do not know, but thankfully it was unsuccessful. Angel and I had to make sure on that front. Not the most pleasant duty I had to carry out in my tenure as watcher, I assure you."

Then came the crux, the question I had been dreading to ask. Why? Because deep in my heart I knew what the answer was likely to be. And still, I had to do it, had to press the issue.

"Willow, do you happen to know anything about that?"
