Clayvember clo

May 13, 2014 08:30

Feh. I wasn't planning to join in this Clovember in May business half my flist seems to be doing, but when it comes to clo, I'm all too easily swayed. Besides, I was pleased with today's outfit, and I figured I might as well share my pleasure. As it were.

You look nice today! (I say, as if you don't look nice every other time I've seen you, which I have a lot recently.) Love that dress!

I walked by a Pumpkin Patch store not too long ago and my steps slowed as your voice rang in my ears, but in the end I was too chicken to go in, given how many actual mothers with actual children were inside. Like you, I've found that when I've bought T-shirts from the US they actually fit. The first time I ordered one I held my breath and went with a Girly Small (the Girly measurement, the site said, was for a curvier figure, which I do have, to the surprise of most everyone else, given that I am lacking in the bust area) figuring that, though it might not fit exactly right, at least it wouldn't be hanging off me. But then it arrived! And I was amazed! I had never had a T-shirt that showed off my waist before! And after that I was happy to pay a bit extra for postage and tops that actually fit.

Wow. OK. Ramble over. Today's clo approved. *big tick*

C'mon M. You can do it. In fact, I sporadically entertain the idea of having a Clothes Hour one day before our Pendragon meetings, when you can try on sundry garments of mine (e.g. a pair of charcoal skinny cords in Pumpkin Patch girls' size 11, the infamous 8B, Target girls' size 14 T-shirts, which fit me nicely, anything else I can find in the Garage Of Doom which I think might be your sort of thing, etc.) and thereby bypass the whole going into children's shop self-consciousness issue because you'll be informed enough to order online. Or geez, inherit your pick of my oceans of old stuff, as no-one's so much as sniffed at the two pairs of shoes I put on eBay, and I'm not convinced I'll ever sell anything there ( ... )

Ohhhh, that sounds like fun! One of the reasons I don't buy clothes online is because of my size. Unlike you, I can't be bothered waiting for something to arrive only to have to send it back for an exchange.

*Gah*, I followed the links I gave you above on a whim, and now I've BOUGHT SOMETHING! NOOOO! I'm supposed to be on a RIGID budget! Still. It was cheap. And quirky. And has a camel on it. I suspect it's not your sort of thing, but put it with a shortish black top and it's definitely mine. That said, it may fall afoul of the children's clothing not being cut for womanly hips problem, but hey, if that happens, I'll just return it. http://www.pumpkinpatch.com.au/flatshot/S3UA70007/col/PAPAYAPUNC/listing/237494/categorypath/girl/urban-angel-girl/

Good Lord. If you're a size 16 in that dress I hate to think what I'd be. 32 perhaps? 50? Maybe the sizes are going with age again in that brand.

It is a really lovely dress though and you look good in it. Even so... three exchanges?!?! I'm impressed by your dedication.

Ach, I think it's just UK sizing. When Monsoon still had a shop in the CBD, I had the same issue there. I tried on some sheath dress or other and had to go up to a size 14 to get it over my hips (whereupon the top was comically huge, as it was in a non-stretch fabric). Don't British women have hips? I mean, I'm somewhat bottom-heavy, but not all *that* much.

As for the dedication, I have gone to greater lengths before when I find a piece I really want in my gallery wardrobe...

I don't know how UK sizes map to AU sizes, but clothes over here do seem to be cut for women with quite small hips and flat bottoms. I always notice when I buy trousers from the USA that they have a lot more room in the rear.

Fab outfit, I'm very impressed by your dedication on the dress sizing, I'd have given up after the second one didn't fit!

I have similar issues with needing petite tops which is why I don't own any tailored shirts.

Not tempted to track down petite tailored shirts? They do exist! These days I read quite a few petite style blogs, which have pointed me to all manner of sources.

When it comes to dresses like this one, my shortness is often quite handy. I am, I fear, a tad elderly to be wearing such things when they hit at mid-thigh, as intended, but put them on me and they go down to a quite acceptable 2-3" above the knee.

To be fair, I don't have much cause to own any given I don't need smart work wear for my job and have an aversion to ironing! I tracked down a petite tailored suit jacket for my last job interview and I've worn it precisely twice so far (although I do wish casual blazers were easier to find in petite sizing, none of mine fit quite right).

I really like the way the rose print goes with the denim, and the scarf is a perfect finishing touch.

Also, I think New Look have got more unreliable with their sizing since they joined forces with ASOS. They used to run consistently slightly large but now they're all over the place.

It is a great dress. Totally worth it.
