31_days With a delicate touch Malcolm traces the shape of her face with his dirty and bruised finger, trying not shake his hand. Each breath struggles to escape, the weight of the world seems to be pressed onto his chest. Every movement no matter for grand or gradual came with the sensation that someone was smacking the back of his skull with all their force.
At least he was awake, aware of the surroundings, dark and depressing, but safe. Still tracing Hoshi's features wanting her to awake just to know she was alright, but her breathing is stable and even, so he just lets her be. He fights himself of the idea of sleeping as well, curling into a ball next to her and surrendering to the safety of dreams. No, he was needed here, to protect her and allow her to know she never left her side.
“Where?” He looks down, quickly calming his nervous from the hours silence having been broken. Her eyes are blinking over and over as they try to adjust to the faint light.
“Not sure. I tried to send a message to Enterprise, but I couldn't get through. Likely after the storm clears it'll be work.” Malcolm was unsure he was trying to calm himself or her. He realized the answer was both.
“You look like crap.” She says with a smile, reaching over to his face, he winces back. He had excepted that a bruise was there now he had confirmation. “Sorry.”
“Don't worry about me.”
“Someone has to. Now I demand you lay down and go to sleep. It's ok I'm fine.” It surprised him a bit that she knew without being told of his actions the hours of before, was he that easy to read?
“No, it's still dangerous Hoshi, what if th-”
“Malcolm?”
"Yeah?"
“I can protect myself and you. Don't worry I'll wake if you anything that unusual happens, alright?” Already swifting his self around laying on the hard ground, wishing for a pillow, a balled up shirt, anything. Noticing his struggle Hoshi scotches over and with a gentle touch lifts his head and lays it on her lap and delicately traces his features just as he had.
