Brief notes:
1. Nothing can ever beat my first Tori experience. Especially since she played SO many of my favorite songs, from "Bouncing off Clouds" to "Crucify." The lighting was impressive, and I was fortunate to go with two friends (including the fabulous
blinkerbook) who appreciated my Tori fandom. As a thank you for coming with me, I bought them each a concert t-shirt, though I thought the choices were pretty poor. We opted for the gray shirt that says "And the wolves try to dry her eyes because the bad man made her cry."
2. This concert was amazing. I went with
ellimist, and although the Goo-Goo Dolls were the opening act, Third Eye Blind stole the show. The music was great, truly entertaining show despite being outside. I actually think Third Eye Blind has to be the best live performer I've ever seen. I do regret not purchasing a concert t-shirt, because it would have been a neat memento.
3. What mostly gets The Eagles up here is that, well, they're The Eagles! Music was good. Not much showmanship, but I don't really evaluate that. Loved the music and ended up going with nearly the entire Dekat clan.
4. Train impressed me. I had always loved "Meet Virginia" but hadn't heard much else by them. In fact, I remember distinctly disliking "Drops of Jupiter" when it first came out because it just sounded too poppy. But
seraphprowess asked me to go and I'm glad she did, because they were pretty swell live. I regret getting a t-shirt, because they had some really neat designs available.
5. Journey, Styx and REO were all amazing live. I went with Jen (
peacegood) and Zack (
ellimist), and we arrived a few minutes before REO Speedwagon got off the stage. Most impressive, I saw dozens of women flinging their underpants at the old rock bands. Styx had a neat display going on with a super-fast slideshow presentation taking place during "Sail Away." That being said, it was clear that the bands weren't totally aging well at that point, impacting Journey more than the other two.
6. I'm surprised that my second Tori experience ranks so low, and also not surprised. I haven't really been able to get into her album, "Abnormally Attracted to Sin," and this tour was in conjunction with that release. So I didn't know most of the songs, and it made it difficult to get into. But she played a lot of oldies like "Sugar" that aren't her usual fare, and B went with me, so that made it a worthwhile experience. As a side note, this tour also had better concert tees.
7. Bob Dylan wasn't a disappointment, but I would have ranked the concert much higher a few years ago. But the venue was pretty awful. I went with Emily (
emkatc), and the place seemed like a dive bar more than a concert stage, and it was difficult to hear him over all the noise. For his part, Bob Dylan wasn't utilizing a lot of vocal power, and he looked pretty ancient. I did make sure to grab a concert t-shirt.
8. There are not enough words to describe how much the Everclear concert sucked. Despite being my first concert and going with Caroline (
careo113) and Katie (
froggerkt), it was the WORST concert I'd ever been to and probably ever will go to. I liked some of Everclear's songs, but they were horrible live, and I think they mangled their lyrics at one point. Their opening bands were absolutely terrible, and more than once, I had some underage kid spill beer on me from being too drunk to remember how to walk. I did buy a concert t-shirt, but only because I was so angry from the colossal waste it turned out to be, I needed a justification for having gone. The t-shirt, at $30, was the most expensive I'd ever purchased at the time, so I wore that thing all the time, including in my senior pictures.
What are yours?
