Painting Toasters

I just finished reading Krondor The Betrayal. Sadly, not about cavemen. Though, I do have to say... that's a subgenre of fantasy I haven't seen yet: prehistoric fantasy. I'm sure it's out there, though.

Anyway, at first it was just damn boring. Then it became aggravating as I realized that this was the type of fantasy novel that I utterly despise: running around in the forest killing bad guys. Blech. But something was a bit off with the writing. They had this super-important mission to fulfill, but were content to take care of random, seemingly unrelated tasks without even mentioning how the one with the most to lose possibly thought they were wasting my time. "Gee," I said to myself, "that certainly seems like a game with side quests."

And then I read the author's afterword to find that it was originally a game. *rolls eyes*

Anyway, this is getting firmly shelved on the shelf of shame, right next to Terry Goodkind. I'll probably waste my time reading the others in this series and by this author, but strictly as a what-not-to-do.

Also? "servce"? TYPO WIN.

Next, I'm reading The First Five Pages by Noah Lukeman, the last book I got for Brumalia last year. It's been a while since I read a writing book; maybe it will help me out of my rut.
