I should start a support network for American refugee's in Australia, help you guys get on your feet in a new country and maybe some psychological assistance for the clandestine brainwashing (or as certain folk over there would put it, 'patriotism') you all undergo. :P
Nah, seriously, I've lived in many countries in my life, the US would be one I would never go back to again, ever. It's just plain fucked. :)
Good thing Democratic party leaders have been as intent as stopping Bush as the GOP was in fighting Clinton. Oh, wait, my bad ... they've done nothing to stop him and are utterly complicit in his crimes.
A history Lesson (Although I'm sure you already knew)atl2006August 25 2005, 22:05:07 UTC
Once a upon a time in American History Republicans were the radicals that wanted to change everything. After the Civil War they started to become more conservative because they did not really want to liberate the slaves. Their current ideals evolved during the great depression, were they decided to blame all of the country's economic problems on the Democrats. I think the founding fathers would be pissed about the way things are. They didn't even like the idea of political party. They feared that political parties and other interest groups would corrupt the government. They viewed political parties as a neccessary evil.

very true, though another big part of the repub history is 1 competing with the "dixiecrats" (the racist deomcrats) for control of the south and 2 when corporations where declared to be "persons" under the law by the supreme court the repubs changed a great deal of their fiscal policy to make things easier for the corps and harder for the poor and margonalized (mostly people of color), and of course 3 the adoption of the religious right wing community in the 80's after carter royally pissed them off by suporting women's rights...
I just find these quotes facinating because the same people who said them now accuse those who say similar things if not the same damn thing of treason...
