Babies!

May 20, 2008 14:12

Well, after my last post I know that no one is surprised by this one :)

Mina gave us 12 babies, a perfectly average litter size, right on time on her due date. The babies are fat and pink and squeaking and I couldn't ask for more :) Both parents are gorgeous, so I can't wait for this litter to develop... they're going to be amazing, AND I should have Russian Cinnamons in it, FINALLY! *SQUEE*!!

(In no particular order: Chance of Rain, Cold Front, Few Showers, Heavy Fog, Light Rain, Misty, Mostly Overcast, Partly Cloudy, Scattered Storms, Severe Thunderstorms, Snow Advisory and Whiteout

And... Fashion Bug surprised me!

I had she and Mina sharing a cage when I put Mongongo in there. I figured Bug would act as a safety net, should Mina fail to conceive (I already tried to breed her to Mongo once, they didn't get along) and I certainly wouldn't mind Bug-babies either :) Sadly, even though I saw Bug and Mongo mate, I didn't think she "caught" - her weight gain over the last 3 weeks has been completely negligible.

She gave birth to ONE baby the same day as Mina! Well, I was kinda shocked!! Not only was she pregnant after all, but I'd really expect her to go a couple days later!

Unfortunately, there's only one baby for the ton of fun insect names I was going to give this litter - Honeybee, Cricket, Mantis, Ladybug, etc - so I had to think up an alternate plan that would let me use those names when this little guy finally has a litter. But... alternative bug names? Not so easy to come up with! Last night's suggestion of "Listening Device" courtesy (mostly) of Austin was a winner, until C put his oar in and named the little guy.

So, welcome to BVR Tom the Dancing Bug!
