Rat Ribbons - winning respect for the rat

This is from AusRFS which is the Australian rat fanciers club, so things are a bit different than US clubs. For one thing, they have MUCH BIGGER and more frequent shows than we do, allow open-sided cages, and allow people to be handling the animals during the show. Why? Because they don't have the killer SDA version that we have in the pet-USA fancy.

USA-pet SDA (Sialodacryoadentitis Virus) will kill a rattery of 50 animals down to 15 in a week - and that's not an exaggeration, those are numbers from the first time it hit me. Because of that, USA clubs need a month of quarantine (no breeding) on either side of a show, which means we can only do like 2-3 shows a year TOPS if we still want to be breeding litters to place.

Still, it's a really great video from the historical perspective and gives you some of an idea of what the Chicago show was like! (Of course, there's one lady at the Easter show in Australia who had as many rats entered as we had in the WHOLE SHOW in Chicago, WOW!)
