Bright, bright, sunshiney day.....
Which it was! But thankfully not too hot, so at least it was enjoyable. :D
So, the third Sunshine Challenge:
So, I'll just do the things nearest and dearest to my heart, even if i've talked about them here before. What should have more fandom, more fans, more...everything?
The Expanse!!! It started as a series of books, and is set to air it's fourth season some time this year.
It's sci-fi like sci-fi *should* be. Earth has expanded; the moon, Mars, out to the Belt between Mars and Jupiter, and beyond. And as humans move outward, they change...until Earth, Mars, and Belters are different people, different factions, their own governments, their own beliefs, their own myths and stories and desires.
Not only are the characters fascinating, but they stick as close to actual science as they can, they really *use* science to make the show better, and the cast is *fantastic*. Beautiful and beautifully acted and truly amazing. Some of the most awesome female characters I've encountered in a long time.
The novels are awesome, too, with so much detail and so many fascinating events, characters, places.... I wish there were more of this kind of stuff around.
Also? It reminds me a bit of C J Cherryh's 'Heavy Time/Hellburner' 'verse, which has Belters fighting with Mars fighting with Earth, and the 'little guy' always caught in the gears. (Cherryh's books are older, but there's no plagiarism here, just smart people thinking along the same lines.)
Of course, Cherryh is my all-time favorite author, and to see something like her 'world' come to life is *excellent* and exciting.
Also also - I am wild to see the Downton Abbey movie this September, but I kinda think it will never come to my stupid town, which makes me sad. Edith! THOMAS BARROW!!!!! I waaaaaaaaaaant.
Outside the cut: this fucking fic. It's a type of fic i have a lot of issues with, but these authors changed it up and made one of the most funny, ridiculous, heart-achey, gorgeous, sweet and sexy fics in the genre i've ever read. Go. Now. LOVE.
Scents and Sensibility: The Working Assassin's Guide to Supersoldier Seduction by galwednesday, silentwalrus, skellerbvvt.
Read it. Read *all the fics* they wrote. They are awesome. :D
