Who knows? :)
I've been lurking around in fandom and on LJ for a while now, not participating as much as I used to, just not quite feeling *up* to it, for some reason. I want to change that, though. So I'm going to be on here more, if I can, responding and talking more (fingers crossed), and also writing more, I hope hope hope.
I thought I'd start with the
Snowflake Challenge, even though I'm several days behind. Some of that was sheer not-organized-ness, and some of that was the *incredibly* windy days we've been having taking out the interwebz for half my town. So my connection has been spotty.
I was also made aware that, for some weird reason, my sticky 'master fic post' was suddenly thrust into prominence as a 'new' post, who knows why. LJ sure seems to be getting unstable. I was puzzled but pleased by the comments, and it did prompt me to update my 'Marvel 'verse' entries, so yay!
Now - here we go with the first of the Snowflake Challenge...challenges. *snerk*
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.
Babylon. A Spike/Xander post-apocalyptic AU, written for the dear-departed secondverse. I absolutely adore world-building, and this, I think, was one that I enjoyed just...beyond measure. I built worlds in 'Scaling Heaven' and 'Song of the Treadmill', too, but I think this kind of...got me into that groove good and solid. Originally posted in 2005.
South China Sea. A Jared/Jensen historical AU, set in Vietnam, during the American/Vietnam war. I have been fascinated, appalled, and intrigued by this time period, this war, these soldiers (and nurses) - this conflict - since I was a teen. Writing this was...cathartic, maybe? I don't know - it felt good. It felt like I was stretching myself in some ways, and in some ways (weirdly), it felt more *real*. And getting some comments from soldiers, survivors, and family members/friends of survivors telling me that I had got it 'right' was...amazingly good. Really made me feel like I'd crossed a line in my writing. Originally posted in 2008
Omg, this is so hard. What do rec for the third one? What, what, what....
Okay, so - while I enjoy a good curtain-fic as much as the next person, I don't write a *ton* of them, or...not intentionally? But I really enjoyed this one.
47.25435° N, 101.73998° W. A Steve/Bucky, post-war, modern AU, wherein Steve is a farmer in North Dakota, and Bucky is a boy from Brooklyn. This was inspired by my work, where I get to (sometimes) talk to farms a lot about farmer stuff (DeKalb is a real company, lots of farmers plant DeKalb). So this seemed natural. And then it was just *fun*, making Steve into, well, Steve, with a white farm house and a clawfoot tub and secret love for Mississippi Mud Pie. And making Bucky a war-weary, world-weary soldier who just wants to find home. Writing in the Marvel Universe (and dragging
darkhavens and now
sweptawaybayou along for the ride), has been and continues to be a blast. Originally posted in 2016.
So, there we go! I'm going to be doing them as quickly as possible to catch up, so expect several this Thursday-Sunday. I hope i'll be seeing and hearing and talking to more of my lovely flist this year; hope this helps me get that off to a good start. :)
ETA: I just realized that LJ spontaneously reposted my Master post. WTH. So i'm going to lock that one and make it private so nobody by me sees two. If I delete it, I'll lose the comments there, which I don't want to do. LJ! Stop being weird!!
