I think now, in retrospect, i could have totally gone a different way with their history, but i think too many things were inevitable. Just because Mary lives doesn't mean that the YED is going to stop, or change his goals, you know? And even knowing he's a demon, they don't know what he's doing, or why.

Sam looked up, and the expression on his face was one Dean had seen a hundred times before. Stubbornness - determination. But under that, and over it, like a grey and haggard ghost - grief. It hurt, to see that look on Sam's face. It hurt more than Dean had ever imagined anything could, and he made a small and private vow in that moment. Vowed that Sam would never have that look on his face again. Ever.
Dean will never change; he'll always want to take care of Sam, stop him hurting. *smishes them both together*
