We've been to the movies, again. This time, Pangur, Jumpy and me went to see "Watchmen", a graphical novel made into a movie. Watchmen was supposedly impossible to bring to the screen.
It's definitely worth seeing, though you'll have to like, or at least be able to tolerate, the superhero genre.
One great thing about Watchmen is that all of the characters go through changes and develop from one person to another. None of them are emotionally flat and there's a story to each of them. Which is rare for an action movie, or in fact almost any movie, today. (which is not saying that they aren't going from one stereotype to another)
But there's something about this flick that I want to tell you, and that is that I can't get it out of my head. The visual language is -too- powerful. I've seen lots of movies, but this one was, for me, too intense. I don't know whether I'm growing old and thus more mentally sensitive, but I don't think that's why my brain's still busy working on that movie, two days later.
It's got very vivid pictures, lots of violence too, but that's not unusual these days. Sin City comes to mind. Yet, Watchmen somehow had stronger symbols and more creepiness. Which was probably intended, but it worked too well for my taste.
That said, I don't regret having seen it, and I still recommend it, but leave your kids at home.
