man, your brother sure picked the right place to be. i've seen footage of amsterdam after the final and the place was a mess. so many orange plastic cups, so much beer, so many people crying. which national side(s) and/or club side(s) does your brother support do you know?

Yeah, when it became clear that Spain was going to be in the final, we were all kind of hoping Spain would win (even though we were all actually supporting Holland; in my case, after Italy got knocked out), because it would've gotten crazy if they'd lost.

I'm not sure about clubs, but I think from among the national teams he supports Brazil. I know he was privately rooting for Holland in the final games, but it was definitely more awesome to be in the capital of the victorious World Cup nation.

haha wait what?

cool! brazil is a lot of people's 'second team', i've read that the viewing stats go way up whenever brazil is playing. even in places like paraguay and estonia and papa new guinea, more people tune in to see brazil than, say, germany.

i would've worried for your brother's safety if he was openly supporting oranje lol

Heh, well, my parents and I and my brother himself like the Dutch team better than the Spanish team buuut we figured things could get ugly with the disappointed fans in Madrid if Spain lost the final and were hoping that could be avoided with a Spanish win. F reported that the crowd was just insane before the match even started.

He actually had his oranje jersey in his backpack with him when he went to the game, but wisely did not put it on...

Interesting re: Brazil! I guess it makes sense -- they're the team with the most World Cup wins, aren't they? *googles*. Interesting! Germany has kind of an "always the bridesmaid" thing going on, doesn't it... and Italy is downright bimodal, though that's not news to me...

re: your brother. oic that makes sense!
yup, popular wisdom has it that germany and italy and france just have that finishing ability, that closing instinct, that luck that, say, england lacks you know?

up till two years ago spain have always been europe's "perennial underachievers," i think they need a new pigeonhold now though just sayin'
